Federer ties for second longest at No. 1

LONDON, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Switzerland's Roger Federer has tied Ivan Lendl for the second-most weeks ranked as the No. 1 tennis player in the world.

Federer, as of Monday, has been the top-rated player for 270 weeks, matching Lendl's total. Only Pete Sampras's reign of 286 weeks at No. 1 is longer.

There was only one change in the ATP Top 10, with Spaniard Rafael Nadal moving to third and knocking Andy Murray to fourth as the Scot lost ratings points. Nadal has 7,370 points to Murray's 7,300. The 70-point difference is the narrowest between Top 10 players.

Federer has been No, 1 for 33 consecutive weeks -- the 16th longest such stretch -- and is comfortably ahead of No. 2-ranked Serb Novak Djokovic.

Argentine Juan Martin del Potro is fifth followed by Russian Nikolay Davydenko in sixth and American Andy Roddick in seventh. The No. 8 spot is taken by Swede Robin Soderling and No. 9 Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and 10th-rated Croat Marin Cilic complete the Top 10.

One of the biggest movers in this week's rankings was Russian Mikhail Youzhny, who improved from 20th to 15th after finishing second Sunday to Soderling in the Rotterdam Open in the Netherlands.
