Jimenez tops Westwood in playoff

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Miguel Angel Jimenez rolled in a 4-foot par putt on the third hole of a playoff with Lee Westwood Sunday and won the Dubai Desert Classic.

The title was Jimenez's16th on the European Tour.

The 46-year-old Jimenez and Westwood each shot even-par 72 in the final round of regulation, finishing at 11-under 277 at the Emirates Golf Club.

The Spaniard and Westwood each parred the first two playoff holes and Jimenez won with his par putt after the Englishman missed a 6-footer.

"I feel so proud to win this trophy, " Jimenez said. " I like the golf course, I like the ambiance and I like the people and I am very happy."

Jimenez has won nine times on the European Tour since he turned 40.

Thongchai Jaidee (73) took third place at 278 and Martin Kaymer (70) and Edoardo Molinari (71( tied for fourth at 279.
