NHL: San Jose 4, St. Louis 2

ST. LOUIS, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Patrick Marleau scored his 38th goal 21 seconds into the game Thursday and San Jose kept the lead the rest of the way en route to a 4-2 win over St. Louis.

San Jose boosted its Western Conference-leading points total to 83.

Ryane Clowe gave San Jose a 2-0 lead 7:53 into the first and although St. Louis twice rallied to within one goal, the Blues were unable to prevent the Sharks from claiming their seventh straight road win.

San Jose put the game away when Scott Nichol made it 4-2 by scoring on a slap shot with 4:48 to play.

Thomas Griess was given a rare start in goal for San Jose and he stopped 35-of-37 shots.

The loss went to Ty Conklin, who made 27 saves.
