NEW YORK, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Cam Ward stopped 37-of-38 shots Wednesday, leading the Carolina Hurricanes to a 5-1 win over the New York Rangers.

The only shot that beat him was Ryan Callahan's 13th goal this season 84 seconds into the second period.

Eric Staal and Sergei Samsonov scored two goals each, Pat Dwyer scored one, and both Joni Pitkanen and Tom Kostopoulos had two assists for the Hurricanes, who have won three of four but remain last in the Eastern Conference with 41 points.

Staal's 17th goal at 14:42 of the third period was the game's lone goal on the power play in eight combined chances.

Rangers' net-minder Henrik Lundqvist was beaten five times on 24 shots in their fourth loss in the last six games at Madison Square Garden.
