DALLAS, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Brad Richards scored the go-ahead goal in the second period Friday and Dallas spoiled the return of Rick DiPietro with a 4-3 win over the New York Islanders.
The Islanders had a 3-2 lead as the game neared its midway point but Brenden Morrow tied it 8:11 into the second and Richards put a wrist shot past DiPietro with 3:13 to go in the period.

DiPietro stopped 24 shots in his first start in more than a year. He has finally recovered from a knee injury suffered midway through last season. His last appearance came Jan. 2, 2009.
New York had won three of its previous four games. Dallas halted a three-game losing streak.
Marty Turco got the win with 19 saves.
