WASHINGTON, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Alexander Semin scored a pair of goals Tuesday to lead the Washington Capitals to a 4-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens.

The Caps got a goal and two assists from Tomas Fleischmann to get back onto the winning track after three straight losses. Eric Fehr tallied the other score for Washington, which before the game named Alexander Ovechkin as team captain.

Washington got 24 saves from goalie Michal Neuvirth.

Josh Gorges and Benoit Pouliot scored for the Canadiens while Carey Price stopped 39-of-43 shots.

Forwards Sergei and Andrei Kostitsyn were out for the Canadiens due to lower-body injuries.
