NHL: Ottawa 2, Philadelphia 0

PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Brian Elliott made 23 saves Thursday and delivered his first shutout of the season in leading Ottawa to a 2-0 victory over Philadelphia.

It was only the second shutout in a three-year career for Elliott, who had given up an average of 3.01 goals per game in his previous 15 appearances this season.

Nick Foligno and Jesse Winchester scored for the Senators, who had lost six of their previous seven outings. The Flyers have been shut out three times in six contests.

Ottawa did not take the lead until Foligno followed up his own rebound and shoved the puck past Brian Boucher with 8:29 to play in the third period.

Boucher made 23 saves.
