Gerry Davis named World Series crew chief

NEW YORK, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Major League Baseball announced Tuesday Gerry Davis would be the crew chief for the World Series, which opens Wednesday in New York.

Davis will bring 26 years of experience at the big league level to the high-profile assignment. He will be behind the plate for Game 1 between the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies and would also be there for a Game 7 if needed.

Jeff Nelson will open the series at first base, Brian Gorman at second base, Mike Everitt at third base, Dana DeMuth in left field and Joe West in right field.

Davis, DeMuth and West will all be working their fourth World Series. It will be the second for the other three members of the crew.

All six worked during the opening round of this year's playoffs.
