U.S. team hopes to clinch World Cup berth

SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- The United States men's soccer team can clinch a 2010 World Cup berth Saturday with a victory in Honduras.

U.S. Coach Bob Bradley said he hopes to "finish up things" in the qualifying match. His team would have more work to do if it loses.

A victory would assure the U.S. team of its sixth straight World Cup appearance.

The United States leads its qualifying group with a record of 5-1-2 for 16 points. Mexico is second at 5

When the qualifying is completed next week, the top three teams will get automatic berths in the cup. A fourth entry from the group will be determined by further competition.

The U.S. team's final qualifying match will be Wednesday in Washington against Costa Rica.
