Punch puts Oregon player in hot water

BOISE, Idaho, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- An Oregon running back may face disciplinary action for punching a Boise State player in the jaw after the Ducks lost to the Broncos, an official says.

Athletic Director Mike Bellotti says the university is deciding what to do about LeGarrette Blount, The New York Times reported Friday.

The 240-pound Blount was escorted off the field by Ducks Coach Chip Kelly after he struck Boise linebacker Byron Hout.

The blow was so strong that it sent the 241-pound Hout, who was not wearing his helmet, tumbling to the ground.

Bellotti said he would discuss the matter with the Western Athletic Conference commissioner and university president but because the incident happened after the game, which Boise State won 19-8 Thursday night, the final decision would rest with the school.

Blount has apologized for his actions but given no reason for the altercation.

"It was something I shouldn't have done," he said. "I lost my head and shouldn't have taken it that far."
