PITTSBURGH, June 25 (UPI) -- Andrew McCutchen singled in Jake Wilson from third with nobody out in the ninth inning Thursday, giving the Pittsburgh Pirates a 3-2 decision over Cleveland.
McCutchen, who was playing in only his 20th major league game, had two RBI in helping the Pirates win two out of three from the Indians. It was the first time this season Pittsburgh had scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
Matt Herges (2-2) came on as the Indians' fourth pitcher to start the ninth and failed to retire a batter.
Wilson singled to open the inning and moved to second on a base hit by pinch-hitter Eric Hinske. Wilson stole third and then scored on McCutchen's single to left on a 1-2 pitch.
That made a winner out of Matt Capps (1-3), who worked a perfect top of the ninth.
Cleveland lost for the eighth time in nine games after taking a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth.
The Pirates drew within a run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Freddy Sanchez and tied the game in the seventh when McCutchen drew a bases-loaded walk from starter Cliff Lee.
