MLB: Minnesota 6, Detroit 2

MINNEAPOLIS, May 13 (UPI) -- A pair of two-run home runs by Joe Mauer and Joe Crede paced the Minnesota Twins Tuesday in their 6-2 victory over the visiting Detroit Tigers.

Crede gave the Twins a 2-0 lead in the second inning when he homered to left in his first start after missing the weekend series against Seattle due to left hamstring injury.

Mauer homered two innings later to stake the Twins to a 4-0 lead, enough to give Kevin Slowey (5-1) the win. Slowey gave up one run on eight hits over six innings.

Armando Galarraga (3-3) took the loss after giving up five runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Jeff Larish and Ramon Santiago homered for the Tigers, but it was not enough to extend their three-game winning streak.

Larish's leadoff homer in the sixth cut the Minnesota lead to one, but the Twins came back in their half of the inning to make it 5-1. Jason Kubel led off with a walk, moved to second on Michael Cuddyer's single and to third on a ground out, and then scored on a throwing error by Placido Polanco.

Santiago made it 5-2 with his home run in the seventh and an RBI single by Denard Span in the eighth accounted for the Twins' sixth run.
