MLB: Toronto 5, Texas 2

TORONTO, April 23 (UPI) -- Scott Richmond struck out eight batters over six innings Thursday and the Toronto Blue Jays used three home runs to down Texas 5-2.

Richmond (2-0) -- just the sixth Canadian-born player to wear a Blue Jays uniform -- allowed six hits and two runs, both on homers.

Vernon Wells and Lyle Overbay staked Toronto to a 2-0 lead in the second with solo shots and Alex Rios delivered a two-run homer in the fifth for a 4-1 lead. All three homers came off Kevin Millwood (1-2), who gave up five hits and four runs over seven innings.

Scott Downs retired all three batters in the ninth to earn his first save.

Josh Hamilton and Chris Davis homered for Texas, which has lost nine out of 12 games since opening the season with three straight victories.
