NEWARK, N.J., March 28 (UPI) -- Tuomo Ruutu's third-period power-play goal Saturday boosted the Carolina Hurricanes to a 2-1 win over the New Jersey Devils.
Ruutu scored at 16:26 of the third after assists from Eric Staal and Joe Corvo. Carolina had faced a 1-0 deficit before Sergei Samsonov scored at 13:05 of the third.
The heroics spoiled Martin Brodeur's bid for a sixth shutout this season.
The Hurricanes have won six in a row and they ended the Devils' franchise-record 11-game home ice winning streak. Also, they won the season series from New Jersey for the first time since 1990-91, when the then-Hartford Whalers won two of three against the Devils.
New Jersey's only goal was scored by Patrik Elias, his 31st, at 18:09 of the first.
Brodeur, the NHL's winningest goalie ever, was beaten twice on 48 shots in the Devils' fourth straight setback.
Cam Ward had 31 saves for Carolina.
