COLUMBUS, Ohio, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Christian Backman's goal with 1:33 left in overtime Saturday lifted the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 3-2 win over San Jose.
The contest went to overtime after San Jose's Christian Ehrhoff scored his sixth goal this season to create a 2-2 tie at 16:02 of the third period, but Backman settled the issue with first game-winner this season.
Dan LaCosta, playing in just his third NHL contest, made 28 saves on 30 shots to record his first career victory for the Blue Jackets, who stopped their three-game losing streak.
San Jose's other goal was scored by Devin Setoguchi (power play) in the second period.
Evgeni Nabokov was beaten three times on 20 shots for the Sharks, who have a three-game losing streak for the first time this season.
Each team won twice in the season series.
