NHL: San Jose 2, Phoenix 0

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Evgeni Nabokov made 24 saves Thursday and recorded his second straight shutout in carrying the San Jose Sharks to a 2-0 win over Phoenix.

Nabokov had blanked Colorado Tuesday and produced his fourth shutout of the season against the Coyotes. He has 44 shutouts in his nine-year NHL career, all of it spent with the Sharks.

Christian Ehrhoff delivered a power-play goal 5:59 into the second period and it remained a 1-0 game until Marcel Goc scored into an empty net with just 15 seconds left in the game.

Ilya Bryzgalov made 27 saves in the hard-luck loss. Nabokov's largest shutout total in a single season has been nine, which he recorded in 2003-04.

San Jose won its fourth straight and opened a seven-point lead over Detroit at the top of the Western Conference.
