Houston guard suspended for stepping

HOUSTON, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- University of Houston guard Aubrey Coleman was suspended one game Monday for stepping on opponent's face.

Conference USA officials Monday issued the suspension after Coleman was accused of violating the league's sportsmanship policy during Houston's 96-90 overtime loss at Arizona Saturday.

Coleman collided with Arizona forward Chase Budinger midway the second half. He was called for a charging foul. Coleman then stumbled and stepped on Budinger's face.

He was given a flagrant foul and ejected from the game after officials reviewed video of the incident.

"During his career at UH, Aubrey has never been involved in an incident that could question his respect for this game," said Houston Director of Athletics Dave Maggard. "He has apologized to Chase Budinger for what occurred."

"I want to apologize to Chase Budinger for what happened Saturday night," said Coleman. "I never meant to step on him."

Coleman, Houston's No. 2 scorer at 18.1 points a game, will serve his suspension Wednesday against UTEP.
