NBA: Minnesota 120, New York 107

NEW YORK, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Rashad McCants scored 23 points Friday and Minnesota used a big second period to halt a 13-game losing streak with a 120-107 victory over New York.

Kevin McHale recorded his first victory as Timberwolves coach since taking over for Randy Wittman early in December.

Al Jefferson added 21 points and 15 rebounds for the Timberwolves and Sebastian Telfair had 20. It was the first Minnesota win since Nov. 28 and only the fifth of the season against 23 losses.

New York, losers of five straight, got 26 points from both Nate Robinson and Al Harrington.

The Knicks' Chris Duhon was hit in the face by a McCants elbow during the second period and was bleeding while being helped to the locker room. After receiving nine stitches to close the cut, Duhon returned to score six points.

The Timberwolves produced 38 points in the second period to take an eight-point halftime lead. That advantage grew to 19 heading into the final period and the Knicks came no closer than seven during the final 12 minutes.
