NHL: Carolina 4, N.Y. Islanders 3

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Goaltender Cam Ward made a save with less than a second left Saturday night and the Carolina Hurricanes edged the New York Islanders 4-3.

Ward's 57th save of the game came on a penalty shot by New York center Doug Weight with 0.7 seconds remaining.

Left wing Chad LaRose scored twice. Eric Staal and Rod Brind'Amour scored one apiece and Ward surrendered three goals after a whopping 60 Carolina shots for the Hurricanes, who had dropped three of four.

New York defenseman Freddy Meyer had a goal and an assist. Sean Bergenheim (shorthanded in the third period) and Mark Streit (power play in the third) scored once each.

Goalies Rick DiPietro and Joey MacDonald yielded four goals on 28 shots in the Islanders' third straight loss.

Carolina has won five of the last seven games between the teams, including three straight at the Islanders' Nassau Coliseum.
