MLB: Kansas City 5, Minn. 4 (12 innings)

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Tony Pena Jr.'s RBI single in the bottom of the 12th inning Sunday lifted Kansas City to a 5-4 win over the Minnesota Twins.

The contest went to extra innings after Kansas City scored twice in the eighth on a wild pitch by Denny Reyes and a throwing error by Adam Everett.

Kansas City also scored on Scott Baker's sixth inning throwing error.

Jose Guillen knocked in one run.

Mark Teahen had three hits, while Pena and two others had two hits for the Royals, who broke a string of five straight losses to the Twins.

The winner was Robinson Tejada (1-2).

Everett led Minnesota with two hits and two RBI.

Two others knocked in one run and Brian Buscher also had two hits for the Twins, who fell 1/2 game back of the Chicago White Sox at the top of the AL Central.

The losing pitcher was Craig Breslow (0-1).
