NEW YORK, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Carlos Beltran's three hits and three RBI Saturday helped the New York Mets hold off Florida for an 8-6 victory.
One of Beltran's three hits was a seventh-inning solo homer. He also hit a two-run double in the first.
Carlos Delgado's two-run homer staked New York to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Daniel Murphy hit a two-run shot in the sixth, David Wright had three hits and Nick Evans two in the Mets' third straight victory.
The winner was reliever Scott Schoeneweis (2-2).
New York remained one game back of first-place Philadelphia in the National League East.
Florida's Mike Jacobs had three hits, one a two-run sixth-inning homer, and three RBI. Jorge Cantu belted a two-run third inning homer, Wes Helms had a pinch-hit RBI single in the eighth, and three others had two hits for the Marlins, who have dropped three of four.
The losing pitcher was starter Scott Olsen (6-7).
