Fred Funk keeps Senior Open lead

COLORADO SPRINGS, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Fred Funk, who is looking for his first major title on either the PGA or Champions Tour, opened a two-shot lead Friday after two rounds of the U.S. Senior Open.

Funk, playing in the morning before gusty winds swept the Broadmoor Country Club's East Course, fired a 1-under 69 for a two-day total of 134.

Eduardo Romero (69) was in second at 136 while Mark McNulty (70), Tom Kite (71) and John Cook (72) were all at 136.

Greg Norman had to settle for a 72 while playing in the worst of the gusts, leaving him tied for 12th at 142. Tom Watson (74), also with a late starting time, was another shot back.

Funk, who held the first-round lead after shooting a 65, bogeyed three of his first eight holes Friday to fall off the pace. But he rallied with four birdies the rest of the way. He was one of only four players to break par Friday.

Ian Woosnam, playing in the event for the first time, had the day's low round of 68 -- moving him to 142.
