Atlanta's Mike Hampton, getting his second start after missing almost three full seasons with elbow problems, gave up four runs on seven hits in five innings.

The win went to Jeff Bennett (2-4), who worked two perfect innings of relief.

Joel Pineiro (3-5) took the loss, allowing six runs on 10 hits in six innings.

Sammons was called up from Class AAA this week when catcher Brian McCann suffered a concussion. Prior to Thursday, Sammons had recorded only one hit in three games.

Omar Infante added two RBI for Atlanta with a solo homer in the second and a double in the seventh.
