MLB: LA Angels 9, Boston 2

BOSTON, July 30 (UPI) -- Garrett Anderson had four of Los Angeles' 16 hits and drove in four runs Wednesday, carrying the Angels to a 9-2 whipping of Boston.

Mark Teixeira was hitless in his Los Angeles debut, but the Angels easily finished off a three-game sweep. The Red Sox slipped three games behind division-leading Tampa Bay in the American League East.

Anderson singled in two runs during a three-run fourth and contributed a two-run homer as part of a five-run sixth.

That allowed Joe Sanders (14-5) to coast to his eighth victory on the road this season. Sanders gave up two runs on five hits in six innings.

Josh Beckett (9-8) was roughed up for seven runs on 11 hits in 5 1/3. He lost his third straight start.

Teixeira, who has 20 home runs and 78 RBI this season, was acquired this week from Atlanta for first baseman Casey Kotchman and pitching prospect Stephen Marek.

The new member of the Angels flew out in the first, struck out in the fourth, struck out again in the fifth, reached on error in the sixth and walked in the eighth.
