Report: Favre waiting to return to NFL

GREEN BAY, Wis., July 16 (UPI) -- Brett Favre's agent told ESPN Wednesday that the veteran quarterback is in no rush to apply for reinstatement in the NFL.

The comment follows reports that the longtime Packer would show up July 27 unannounced at Green Bay's training camp.

On March 4, Favre, 38, announced his retirement, and in recent days, he has been told by team officials that he is welcome to return to Green Bay as a backup to Aaron Rodgers.

The Packers also have denied Favre's request to be released.

"We have no definite plans to ask for reinstatement," Favre's agent, Bus Cook, told ESPN reporter Chris Mortensen. "Right now we have until the sixth week (of the regular season) and Brett has made it pretty clear that he is not willing to come in as a backup."

The Packers have said that they are ready to move on with Rodgers and that Favre is still under contract.
