MLB: Seattle 4, Detroit 1

DETROIT, July 4 (UPI) -- Erik Bedard limited Detroit to a run and five hits in five innings Friday to help the Seattle Mariners beat the Tigers 4-1.

Bedard (6-4) walked three batters, struck out six and threw 58 of his 99 pitches for strikes in one of his best outings in the 2008 season.

Jose Lopez's two-run eighth-inning double was the game's biggest hit. Lopez had two hits while Jamie Burke had two hits and scored twice for the Mariners, who made the most of six hits in the third win in their last four games.

Seattle closer Brandon Morrow recorded his sixth save by striking out two of the four batters he faced.

Detroit's run scored on Miguel Cabrera's solo homer in the top of the second. Cabrera and Clete Thomas had two hits apiece for the Tigers, who had won six of the seven previous meetings with Seattle.

Losing pitcher Kenny Rogers (6-6) yielded four runs and six hits in 7 2/3 innings.
