NOTTINGHAM, England, June 18 (UPI) -- Russia's Dmitry Tursunov was thrown out of the men's Slazenger Open tennis tournament in England Wednesday after poor behavior during his doubles match.
Tursunov, who has been called the "Russian bad boy" because of his volatile temper, left abruptly when he and playing partner, Chris Haggard of South Africa, were docked a point after Tursonov hit a ball at the umpire's chair during a disputed line call in the third set against Italians Simone Bolelli and Andreas Seppi.
The Tursonov-Haggard duo was trailing the match in Nottingham, England, 6-4, 3-1, 7-8.
"After reviewing the situation, the ATP supervisor has withdrawn Tursunov from the tournament," the ATP said in a statement.
"If I knew exactly where I was hitting the ball I would've hit him, not the bottom of the chair," Tursunov said.
The 31st-ranked singles player in the latest men's tennis tour singles rankings released Monday, received a $4,000 fine at the 2006 Wimbledon tennis tournament for calling umpire Fergus Murphy an "idiot."
