Strange builds his lead at the Wales Open

NEWPORT, Wales, May 30 (UPI) -- First-round front-runner Scott Strange upped his lead to four strokes with a 5-under-par 66 at Friday's second round of the Wales Open in Newport, Wales.

After daylong inclement weather conditions, the Australian's 35-hole total, 13-under 129, leads Ben Braham (64), Robert Dinwiddie (65), India's Jeev Milka Singh (68) and Alvaro Velasco (68) of Spain.

The latter quartet shares second place at 9-under 133 heading into Saturday's third round.

"I'm not too used to these wet conditions coming from Australia but I guess you just have to try to adapt to what you've got," Strange said.

He has never won a tournament on the European Tour.

Thursday's second-place finisher, Italy's Edoardo Molinari (70), fell back into a tie for sixth at 8-under 134.

Defending champion Richard Sterne of South Africa shot his second straight 2-over 73 and missed the cut with his overall total of 4-over 146.
