MLB: N.Y. Mets 8, LA Dodgers 4

NEW YORK, May 29 (UPI) -- A pair of two-run homers by David Wright Thursday sent the New York Mets to an 8-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The outcome spoiled the return to New York for Joe Torre, who managed the Yankees for 12 seasons.

With the Mets facing persistent rumors concerning a possible managerial change, they managed their third straight win.

Wright opened the scoring with a two-run shot in the third and he hit another one in a four-run fourth to boost his total for the year to 11.

Los Angeles closed within 6-4 in the sixth, but Endy Chavez and Brian Schneider gave the Mets some insurance with RBI singles in the seventh.

Claudio Vargas (2-2) earned the victory, giving up four runs on five hits in 5 2/3. Brad Penny (5-6) gave up six runs on eight hits in four innings to take the loss.
