MLB: N.Y. Yankees 8, Seattle 2

NEW YORK, May 4 (UPI) -- A six-run third inning Sunday spurred the New York Yankees to an 8-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners.

Adrian Beltre's two-run homer in the top of the first inning put Seattle in front 2-0, but those turned out to be the Mariners' only runs of the contest.

Jason Giambi's tie-breaking sacrifice fly drove in the eventual winning run, giving New York a 3-2 lead. Melky Cabrera's two-run homer and Robinson Cano's solo shot capped the outburst.

Derek Jeter had one RBI and four hits. Bobby Abreu had three hits and one RBI, while both Hideki Matsui and Johnny Damon had two hits for the Yankees, who completed a three-game sweep.

Winner Darrell Rasner (1-0) gave up two earned runs and five hits in six innings.

Beltre and Raul Ibanez had two hits apiece for the Mariners, whose losing streak grew to five in a row.

Losing pitcher Carlos Silva (3-1) was touched for eight earned runs and 11 hits in three innings.
