MLB: Toronto 2, Chi. White Sox 0

TORONTO, May 2 (UPI) -- Shaun Marcum allowed two hits over 6 2/3 innings Friday and Toronto recorded its second straight shutout -- a 2-0 blanking of the Chicago White Sox.

The two-game winning streak follows a slump in which the Blue Jays had lost seven out of nine.

Marcum (3-2) walked three and struck out nine. Four Toronto relievers then combined to hold Chicago without a hit for the final 2 1/3.

Scott Downs recorded the final two outs for his second save of the season.

The Blue Jays downed Boston 3-0 Thursday.

Mark Buehrle (1-3) went the distance for the White Sox, allowing only five hits, walking no one and striking out seven.

Both Toronto runs were unearned and came in the first inning after Buehrle had retired the first two men he faced.

Scott Rolen prolonged the inning when he reached on a throwing error by third baseman Joe Crede. Vernon Wells then sent Rolen to third with a ground-rule double and Shannon Stewart singled both runners home.
