CLEVELAND, April 30 (UPI) -- Cliff Lee allowed his first run in 27 innings Wednesday, but stayed unbeaten in carrying Cleveland to an 8-3 victory over Seattle.
Lee (5-0), who gave up eight hits and three runs, saw his paltry earned run average increase from 0.28 to 0.96, still the best in the majors. He struck out three and walked one.
The 27-inning scoreless streak ended when Wladmir Balentien hit a three-run homer in the seventh after the Indians had built an eight-run lead. Lee is the first Cleveland pitcher to start a season 5-0 since Greg Swindell won his first six starts 20 years ago.
Franklin Gutierrez led the Cleveland offense with three RBI and Grady Sizemore had a solo homer in the first. The Indians snapped a three-game losing streak.
The loss went to Jarrod Washburn (1-4), who surrendered six runs on six hits in 4 1/3. It was Seattle's fifth loss in seven games.
