COL BKB (W): Stanford 82, Connecticut 73

TAMPA, Fla., April 6 (UPI) -- Candice Wiggins' 25 points and 13 rebounds Sunday led Stanford to an 82-73 upset of top-seeded Connecticut at the Women's Final Four in Tampa, Fla.

The victory came in the national semifinals and gave the Lady Cardinal (35-3) a spot in the title game Tuesday night against Tennessee, which beat LSU 47-46 in Sunday's other semifinal game.

Stanford put UConn in a 40-31 hole at the half and repelled every comeback attempt in the closing 20 minutes.

Kayla Pedersen had 17 points and seven rebounds, and her three-pointer with 2:19 left secured the Lady Cardinal's first trip to the title game since 1992.

Jayne Appel scored 15 points with 10 rebounds while J.J. Hones added 11 points.

Connecticut was led by Maya Moore's 20 points and nine rebounds.

Renee Montgomery had 15 points and four rebounds.

Ketia Swanier had 13 points and five assists while reserve Charde Houston scored 10 points for the Lady Huskies (36-2), who were thwarted in an attempt to win the national title a sixth time.
