MLB: Arizona 8, Colorado 1

DENVER, April 4 (UPI) -- Micah Owings and two relievers combined on a two-hitter Friday when the Arizona Diamondbacks pounded the Colorado Rockies 8-1.

Arizona led 3-0 after Chris Snyder's RBI single and Mark Reynolds' two-run double in the top of the first inning. The winners added single runs in the fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth innings.

Reynolds had two runs, two hits and three RBI. Orlando Hudson had two hits with two RBI and Augie Ojeda drove in a run for the Diamondbacks, who stopped a two-game skid.

Owings (1-0) gave up an earned run and the two hits in 6 2/3 innings with two walks and nine strikeouts.

Chad Qualls and Jose Cruz finished the masterpiece by allowing one base-runner in the final 2 1/3 innings.

The Rockies, playing their home opener, scored their only run on Todd Helton's solo homer in the bottom of the seventh.

Losing pitcher Mark Redman (0-1) gave up five runs -- four earned -- and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings.
