WASHINGTON, March 31 (UPI) -- Ryan Zimmerman slammed a two-out ninth-inning home run, boosting Washington over Atlanta 3-2 Sunday in the first official game at the new Nationals Park.

Zimmerman crushed a 1-0 pitch from Peter Moylan over the center field wall.

Braves' pitchers Tim Hudson, Will Ohman and Moylan had retired 24 straight Nationals' batters before Zimmerman connected.

Washington closer Jon Rauch (1-0) got the win.

Chipper Jones homered for Atlanta in the fourth inning.

The Washington team played the previous three years at RFK stadium. Their new park, along the Anacostia River, seats 41,888.

President George W. Bush threw out the ceremonial first pitch in the season-opening game.
