NHL: Philadelphia 4, N.Y. Rangers 3 (SO)

PHILADELPHIA, March 21 (UPI) -- Mike Richards' shootout goal Friday led the Philadelphia Flyers to a 4-3 victory over the New York Rangers.

Richards was the first skater in the shootout, which Philadelphia won 2-0 after Jeff Carter also scored and New York was shut out.

New York scored three times in a wild third period to erase a 3-2 deficit. New York's Jaromir Jagr's 19th goal this season created a 3-3 tie with just under two minutes left in regulation.

Richards scored his 26th (unassisted) in the first. Daniel Briere scored his 27th and 28th goals in the third.

Vaclav Prospal had two assists and goaltender Martin Biron stopped 23 of 26 shots for the Flyers, who are battling Washington and Buffalo for the eighth and final Eastern Conference playoff berth.

New York's other goals were scored by Marek Malik and Nigel Dawes.

Stephen Valiquette yielded three goals on 30 shots in regulation for the Rangers, who are sixth in the East.
