NHL: Carolina 5, Ottawa 1

RALEIGH, N.C., March 16 (UPI) -- Joe Corvo's first career hat trick Sunday carried the Carolina Hurricanes past the Ottawa Senators 5-1.

Carolina goaltender Cam Ward posted his 33rd win of the season, blocking 16 shots to help his team win for the sixth time in seven games.

Scott Walker and Eric Staal scored the other Hurricanes' goals. Staal added three assists and Sergei Samsonov had two.

The Senators, who had won their three previous games, got their lone goal from Dany Heatley. Goalie Martin Gerber registered 32 saves.
