Nick price leads on Champions Tour

VALENCIA, Calif., March 14 (UPI) -- Nick Price shot a 6-under 66 in windy conditions Friday to grab the lead after one round of the AT&T Champions Classic.

Defending champion Tom Purtzer was alone in second at 67 while Dana Quigley, playing in this event for the 12th straight year, shot a 68.

Loren Roberts and Graham Marsh shared fourth place at 69. Roberts lost to Purtzer in a playoff at last year's tournament.

Price produced a bogey-free round that concluded with a four-foot birdie putt.

"You get those into the wind holes, especially the ones that had water on them, and you just try and play those holes smart," Price said. "And I did."

Those tied for sixth at 2-under 70 included Dave Stockton, Jeff Sluman, Vicente Fernandez, Jerry Pate, Andy Bean, Brad Bryant, Fred Funk and Joe Ozaki.
