WASHINGTON, March 12 (UPI) -- Alexander Ovechkin scored twice Wednesday, including the game-winner late in the third period, to give Washington a 3-2 victory against the Calgary Flames.
His 56th goal this season was scored on the power play with just 1:54 left in regulation. He scored his 55th at 17:55 of the second to break a 2-2 tie.
Mike Green had two assists. Goaltender Olaf Kolzig made 24 saves on 26 shots for the Capitals, who stopped a two-game slide and rose to 6
2 in the last eight contests between the teams.
It was Kolzig's 300th NHL victory -- all with Washington.
Calgary's goals were scored by Jarome Inginla (power play) at 19:15 of the first and Kristin Huselius at 8:57of the second.
Miikka Kiprusoff was beaten three times on 34 shots for the Flames, who had not played at Washington since the 2004-05 season.
They had won three of four.
