NHL: Carolina 4, Buffalo 3 (OT)

RALEIGH, N.C., March 9 (UPI) -- Scott Walker scored at 2:50 of overtime Saturday to give the Carolina Hurricanes a 4-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

Regulation ended in a 3-3 tie after Carolina got goals from Keith Aucoin, Tim Gleason and Sergei Samsonov and Buffalo got one goal each from Derek Roy, Drew Stafford and Toni Lydman.

Cam Ward stopped 27 of 30 shots for the Hurricanes, who have 79 points and hold a seven-point lead over Washington for first place in the Southeast Division.

The Capitals lost 2-1 at Boston and Carolina leads the season series 2-1.

Roy also had one assist, while goaltender Ryan Miller was beaten four times on 35 shots for the Sabres, who nonetheless rose to 74 points, four points back of Philadelphia for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
