Peter Forsberg registered two assists and netminder Jose Theodore stopped 25 of 26 shots for the Avalanche, who have won six in a row.

Their 80 points equals Calgary and Minnesota for the top spot in the Northwest Division.

Antti Miettinen scored his 14th and Marty Turco yielded two goals on 27 shots for the Stars, who lost for only the fifth time since February's NHL all-star break.

The Stars have 87 points and missed an opportunity to extend their advantage over San Jose, which has 86, for first place in the Pacific Division.
