VANCOUVER, British Columbia, March 7 (UPI) -- Alexandre Burrows scored shorthanded just 37 seconds into the game Thursday, touching off the Vancouver Canucks' 6-2 rout of Nashville.
The Canucks ended a four-game losing streak by scoring four times in the opening period and then coasting behind the goaltending of Roberto Luongo.
Dan Ellis allowed three goals on 11 shots in the first period before being replaced by Chris Mason, who faced 33 shots the rest of the way.
Burrows broke in on Mason in the game's opening moments and beat him with a slapshot. Alexander Edler added a power-play goal less than four minutes later and Vancouver also got first-period goals from Matt Pettinger and Kevin Bieksa.
Pettinger's goal, coming 6:09 into the period, sent Mason to the bench.
The game turned rough in the final stages. Six players were in the penalty box when the game ended and three were handed game misconduct penalties in the closing minute.
