Tampa Bay had defeated the Flyers in their previous eight meetings. This was Philadelphia's first triumph over the Lightning since January 2003.

Martin Biron made 18 saves to keep the Flyers in a playoff position. With 76 points, they are in the eighth and final post-season spot.

Tampa Bay has lost eight out of nine and is out of playoff contention.

Carter's game-winner came from the high slot. The puck sailed over the left shoulder of goaltender Mike Smith.
