COL BKB: Vanderbilt 86, Miss. St. 85 (OT)

NASHVILLE, March 5 (UPI) -- Shan Foster's three-pointer with 2.7 seconds left in overtime Wednesday capped a huge effort that gave Vanderbilt an 86-85 win over Mississippi State.

Foster made good on his last nine three-point attempts and scored a career-high 42 points in rallying the 16th-ranked Commodores (25-5, 10-5 SEC).

A.J. Ogilvy added 16 points and Alex Gordon had 14. Vanderbilt has won eight out of nine games, the lone loss in that stretch coming last Saturday against Arkansas.

Mississippi State had a three-game win streak snapped. The Bulldogs (20-9, 11-4) were led by Jamont Gordon with 24 points and Charles Rhodes with 22.

A three-point shot by Ben Hansbrough gave Mississippi State a four-point lead late in overtime, but Foster hit a three-pointer of his own to cut the Bulldogs' advantage to 84-83 with 29 seconds left.

Hansbrough was fouled, but could make only one of two free throws. That set up Foster for his game-winner. His final shot was the 15th three-pointer for Vanderbilt out of 38 attempts.

Foster also hit the final basket of regulation, a three-pointer with 14 seconds remaining.
