COL BKB: Kansas 88, Kansas State 74

LAWRENCE, Kan., March 2 (UPI) -- Brandon Rush scored 21 points Saturday to lead the seventh-ranked Kansas Jayhawks to an 88-74 victory over Kansas State.

Sherron Collins had 18 points and Russell Robinson 14 for the Jayhawks (26-3, 11-3 Big 12), who moved into a tie with Texas for first place in the conference. The Longhorns lost, 83-80, at Texas Tech earlier Saturday.

Kansas State freshman Michael Beasley had two fouls in the first two minutes but didn't have another the rest of the game and wound up with 39 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots. But Beasley was the only player in double figure scoring for the Wildcats (18-10, 8-6), who lost their fourth straight game.

Bill Walker went into the game averaging 16 points per contest, but was held to nine for Kansas State.

In their earlier game this season, which Kansas State won 84-75, Beasley and Walker combined for 47 points.
