NHL: Edmonton 5, Los Angeles 4

EDMONTON, Alberta, Feb. 29 (UPI) -- Two goals and an assist from Ales Hemsky Thursday lifted the Edmonton Oilers to a 5-4 victory over Los Angeles.

It was the Oilers' third straight win. Andrew Cogliano added a goal and an assist and Mathieu Garon made 22 saves to earn the victory in his career-high 12th consecutive start.

Los Angeles, which has lost four of five, got two goals from Dustin Brown.

Fernando Pisani scored what turned out to be the winning goal, tipping in a pass from Geoff Sanderson to make it 5-3 at the end of two periods. The assist gave Sanderson 700 points for his career.

Brown scored shorthanded in the third to make it a one-goal game.

Edmonton has won six straight home games and the victory allowed the Oilers to split the four-game season series.
