NHL: N.Y. Islanders 5, Atlanta 4 (OT)

ATLANTA, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- A goal by Trent Hunter just 69 seconds into overtime Thursday gave the New York Islanders a 5-4 win over Atlanta.

Hunter, stationed in front of the goal, took a pass from Josef Vasicek and fired a one-timer into the right corner of the net.

Mike Comrie, working with a new one-year contract extension, scored twice. Vasicek and Hunter both had a goal and an assist, helping the Islanders end a two-game losing streak.

New York picked up a much-needed victory in its battle to make the playoffs. The Islanders are in ninth place in the Eastern Conference, two points behind Buffalo and Philadelphia.

Atlanta has lost five games in a row and is nine points out of a playoff spot. The last goal of regulation came from Bobby Holik with 1:22 remaining.
