VINA DEL MAR, Chile, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Flavia Pennetta upheld her No. 1 seed Friday by breezing into the semifinals of the Cachantun Cup in Chile with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Kaia Kanepi.
Pennetta, ranked 33rd in the world, set up a semifinal meeting with fourth-seeded Pauline Parmentier, who outfought Martina Muller 7-5, 6-4.

Kanepi had defeated Pennetta in their only previous meeting, at the 2007 Australian Open.
The other semifinal in this clay court event will find Klara Zakopalova meeting Mariya Koryttseva.
The eighth-seeded Zakopalova defeated Lourdes Dominguez Lino 3-6, 7-5, 7-5. Koryttseva won over Nuria Llagostera Vives 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).
