WACO, Texas, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Curtis Jerrells scored 16 points Wednesday and Baylor held on to defeat Texas Tech in the coaching debut of Pat Knight 80-74.
When Bob Knight unexpectedly resigned earlier this week, his 37-year-old son succeeded him as Texas Tech coach. The elder Knight has the most victories in NCAA men's major college basketball with 902.
Baylor ended a two-game losing streak that had knocked the Bears out of the national rankings. They improved to 17-4 for the season and to 5-2 in the Big 12.
Mike Singletary scored 20 points for the Red Raiders (12-9, 3-4).
Texas Tech owned a nine-point advantage in the first half before going cold from the field and falling behind by two at intermission. Baylor built as much as a 14-point lead in the second half.
