VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Niklas Backstrom kicked out 17 shots in a scoreless first period Monday before Minnesota's offense came to life for a 4-2 victory over Vancouver.
Backstrom finished with 38 saves for the Wild, who managed just six shots in that first period before finishing with 26.
Pierre-Marc Bouchard tallied two goals and two assists for the Wild. Brian Rolston and Mikko Koivu each had a goal in the win, which ended a two-game Minnesota losing streak.
Alex Burrows and Taylor Pyatt scored for Vancouver, losers of four straight. Roberto Luongo made 22 saves.
Minnesota led just 2-1 with 4:25 left in the game when Koivu notched his goal. The score stood at 3-1 until Pyatt scored with 27.8 seconds left after Vancouver had pulled Luongo. But Bouchard scored an empty-netter six seconds later to seal the win.
